Hey there, 26 year old TV junkie, podcaster, and aspiring screenwriter here. I graduated from Connecticut College with a degree in Film Studies and I love watching TV almost as much as I love criticizing it. A very inspiring discussion of the episode
Apples play a central role in a variety of stories, for example in the saga about Troy, for a great war that ended with a trick and that led into a 10-year odyssey (Hesperides are then also the condemned from Bardo). Then also in the expulsion from paradise (sending the 100 to earth). The Hesperides -as symbols of a gift- stand for impersonality. So the apple and the Hesperides also became a symbol for Octavia, who was born as a forbidden fruit, was not officially allowed to exist on the Ark and had to be hidden, which is repeatedly torn between SkyCrew, Gounders, TriCrew, and OneCrew. Furthermore, she did not find any proper place in life after escaping from the earth because of her past. Anymore, she sees parallels to her life, especially in Hope.

I think echo killed the gaurds because what is stopping more gaurds coming back to save there own people once they realized knowone came back.
